So nice!

One of the many decorated bags!

One of the many decorated bags!

A Portage area customer came by yesterday with her young sons to give me a bunch of bags they had created as a rainy day project. Isn’t that so nice? I will be using them at the farmers’ market on Friday as much as I can.

One of the bags had the following poem written on it from the magazine ChickaDEE (complete with drawings by the kids):

Fond of Food

Vegetable love, do you carrot for me?
My heart beets for you.
With your turnip nose and your radish face, you are a peach!
If we cantaloupe, lettuce marry.
We’ll make a swell pear.

I love it!!!

Thank Yolanda, Leif and Tynan!

A disappointing harvest

to say the least.

The sun has only shone for a few hours in the past week and it really showed today. The come-and-cut-again lettuce hardly grew this week. I gave up on the one patch altogether and only got 5 lb in total. That sucks.

Carrots…about 1/2 of last week. Spuds, same thing. They will not be happy at the farmers’ market, but I am doing my best under terribly trying circumstances.

It just does not help one’s mood at all, all this grey sky and no growth. I’m wondering what this is all about…do I really want to continue doing this?

New veggies

So, the broccoli is ready to go! I don’t know exactly when the best time to pick it is, so I’m gonna use my best guess. I also picked a zucchini yesterday. So things are coming, things are coming.

Today I prepped new beds like a madwoman. Sore shoulders. Also weeded and thinned carrots. I learned the value of thinning when I was in SK. So thin I shall!

Getting a bit nervous for Friday’s market, but it’s a new market and I’m a new vendor…so people should have patience. I hope so!
